40 New Awards For Firstleaf!

Guess what? Our wines just won 40 new awards in the first two wine competitions of the year!

Competitions bring writers, winemakers, and industry professionals together to judge the state of the current vintage. Over the last three years, we have won hundreds of awards at various competitions and are thankful to add a few more from the 2018 Winemaker's Challenge and the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition.

The Winemaker's Challenge pulls together working winemakers as judges. These are people who live to explore wine and winemaking more deeply and they make great critics. Out of the thousands of wines submitted, only a select handful leave with an award, this year we left with 17!

Idlewright Napa Opulent Red

Our biggest winner was awarded 94 points and a platinum medal!

Robert Whitley, the executive director of the competition described the wine as:

Rich and luxurious this predominantly Merlot blend exhibits ripe red-fruit flavors, nicely integrated tannins and a subtle note of graphite for additional complexity. A Platinum award-winner at the 2018 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition

Faire Saveur French White

Our Faire Saveur French White was also highly lauded with a gold medal and 90 points. A beautiful year-round white that is getting the recognition that it deserves!

The 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition was even better than the Winemaker's Challenge for Firstleaf wines! We brought home 23 medals, and of those medals, there were four golds and four double golds!

A double gold is a wine that is unanimously voted a gold medal-winner by every judge. To have four double gold medal wines is amazing and we couldn't be prouder! It's a huge accomplishment!

Here's a quick look at the double gold medal-winners:

Fog Break Sauvignon Blanc

The Fog Break Sauvignon Blanc from Lodi, CA is a fresh and vibrant white wine. With rich, tropical flavors and a crisp herbal finish, the Sauvignon Blanc is perfect for pairing with almost anything. We've been loving it with oysters and charcuterie boards.

Still & Co. Merlot

The Still & Co. Merlot is a totally different animal. Sweet fruit and juicy tannins make this an insanely drinkable Merlot. Ripe dark fruits, cedar, and sweet oak influence, with generous amounts of cherry, fleshy plum, and blackberry. The finish is savory and rich with notes of mocha and chocolate. A fully deserving double gold winner.

Domaine Abeille French White

The Domaine Abeille French White Wine comes from Cotes du Gascogne, France. The beating heart of the French countryside South of Bordeaux, Gascony lies in the shadow of the Pyrenees and has vineyards that are protected from the Atlantic by a forest and fed by little rivers. The region is famous for blending some of the most interesting indigenous grape varietals that sometimes even succumb to "noble rot" leaving ultra-concentrated grapes with crisp fruit flavors.

Pip + Plow Merlot

Coming from one of the best harvests in the past decade the Pip + Plow Merlot is approachable, and easy to sip. With a mellow smokiness, it is perfect for pairing with meals and is a rich addition to any night.
